It is with deep sadness that we announce that Gerd Schön passed away on November 29, 2024.

Gerd Schön was a member of the Institute of Theoretical Solid State Physics from 1991 to 2016 and headed this institute for many years. With his passing, we have lost a highly esteemed colleague who shaped a generation of quantum physicists as a successful scientist, university lecturer and mentor.
