Abstract

Topology optimization is currently regarded to be one of the most robust method for the inverse determination of material distribution in the structures that meet given structural performance criteria. It can provide a powerful approach for the inverse design of micro-/nano-structures in nano-optics and microfluidics, with synthetically considering the structural performance, scale effect and manufacturability. Therefore, this talk focuses on the introduction of topology optimization of micro-/nano-structures and the demonstration of its applications in nano-optics and microfluidics, including topology optimization of optical metalens based on dielectric nanostructures, topology optimization for localized surface plasmon resonances based on metal nanostructures, topology optimization of micromixers for microflows with low Reynolds-number, and topology optimization of microtextures for Cassie-Baxter wettability of microfluid with large surface-to-volume ratio.
